Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association, after the club’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City last Saturday.
Farke, 49, headed straight to the pitch after the match to confront centre referee Peter Bankes and was shown a straight red card, the first of his managerial career.
The 49-year-old had denied using offensive languages during his post-game interview and was shocked at the decision of Bankes to brandish a red card.
“I jogged over. Not one bad word. No swear words or bad language. I just wanted to ask him why he didn’t add any [further stoppage time] on. He didn’t speak to me and just pulled out the red card”, Farke revealed.
“To pull out a red card and embarrass me in front of the whole world, I wasn’t happy. Even the assistants were shocked the red card was shown. This is not how we should work with each other. I have so much respect for the referees.
“I don’t think Peter did it on purpose, he just misjudged it. I will never jog again.
“I’m not sure what the processes are and when we can appeal it, I can just give you my gut feeling this should not be a red card”, Farke added.
“When there has been a clear and obvious mistake, and for me this was a clear and obvious mistake, it should be overturned. This is what I’ve experienced when players have a red card by mistake, it can be overturned, and I expect the same.”
Meanwhile, the Football Association have now charged him with misconduct and he could be handed a touchline ban if found guilty of the charge.
“Daniel Farke has been charged with misconduct following the Premier League fixture between Leeds United FC and Manchester City FC on Saturday 28 February”, the FA said.
“It’s alleged that the manager entered the field of play at full time to confront the match official/s, which is contrary to Law 12 of the Laws of the Game, and he has until Friday 6 March to respond.’
Leeds United will return to action on Saturday when they face Norwich City in the FA Cup fifth round, although Farke is expected to be at the dugout for the clash.
