Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has completed a move to Brazilian club Corinthians on a free transfer after leaving Seoul FC.
The 33-year-old left the South Korean club in January and now joins a new club after two months, the ninth of his senior career.
The England international has agreed a short-term contract until the end of the year, with the option of an additional year if all parties come to an agreement.
Lingard will link up with former Manchester United teammate and Dutch international Memphis Depay, who moved to the club from Atletico Madrid in 2024.
He began his career at the Red Devils and spent several years on loan away from the club, joining the likes of Leicester City, Brighton and Derby County.
However, Lingard’s most successful loan stint was at West Ham United, although he later turned down a permanent move to the Hammers to join Nottingham Forest instead in 2022.
It proved to be a bad move as he lasted only a few months at the City Ground, before moving to South Korea where he has spent the last two years.
He has now joined Corinthians where he will wear the number 77 shirt and will be looking to help the club win a first league title since 2017.
It’s a magical feeling. I can imagine with the fans it’ll be a crazy atmosphere,” Lingard said after his arrival at the club.
“First, I saw the fans at the airport saying ‘Go, Corinthians! Go, Corinthians!’ There’s a lot of passion from the fans, which is amazing to see. The facilities are amazing.
“The lads welcomed me with open arms, the coach, the CEO have been really good to me. My first impressions: very happy, I can’t wait to get going”, he added.
Lingard could be in contention to make his debut for the club when they face Coritiba in a Brazil Serie A clash next Thursday.
