Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp has disclosed that ex-chairman Daniel Levy once suggested bringing him back to steady the club during its current struggles.
Redknapp made the revelation while reflecting on Tottenham’s difficult run under current head coach Igor Tudor.
The Croatian manager has endured a nightmare start in north London, losing his first four matches in charge, including a painful defeat against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
Tudor was appointed after Thomas Frank left the role despite only taking over during the summer.
Frank had guided Spurs to 16th place before his departure, but the team’s situation has since worsened.
As the campaign enters a crucial phase, Tottenham now face the real threat of relegation, sitting just one point above West Ham United in 18th place.
During an interview with talkSPORT, Redknapp revealed that Levy had reached out to him recently and hinted that he would have welcomed the veteran manager back to help the club through the crisis.
“I got a phone call last week from Daniel, funnily enough,” Redknapp said.
“I think I spoke to him once since I left all that time ago, and I was in the car last week and suddenly the phone goes, it’s Daniel Levy.
“And he did say to me, ‘If I was there now, and I’m not just saying it, I would bring you back in until the end of the season, Harry’ – so it would have been interesting.”
Redknapp, who managed Tottenham between 2008 and 2012, remains one of the club’s most memorable modern-era managers after leading them to consistent top-flight performances and memorable European nights.
While his potential return never materialized, the revelation highlights the level of concern surrounding Tottenham’s current situation as the club battles to avoid slipping deeper into the relegation zone.
