Man City’s Nunes believes the Cityzens can still turn season around

Matheus Nunes insists Manchester City are entering the most decisive stretch of their campaign with belief, declaring that “anything is possible” as the club prepares for a crucial run of fixtures

.The next eight days could shape City’s season across multiple competitions.

After suffering a tough 3–0 first-leg defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League round of 16, Pep Guardiola’s side must quickly shift focus back to domestic action.

Up next, the reigning champions travel to face West Ham United at London Stadium in a key Premier League clash.

With Arsenal setting the pace at the top of the table, City know a strong response is essential to keep the title race alive.

However, the attention will quickly swing back to Europe just days later.

City host the Los Blancos at Etihad Stadium for the decisive second leg, where a place in the Champions League quarter-finals hangs in the balance.

The demanding sequence then culminates with a blockbuster showdown against the Gunners in the EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium on March 21.

Despite the daunting schedule, Nunes believes the coming days provide the perfect stage for the Cityzens to demonstrate the quality and resilience that have defined the Guardiola era.

“It’s tough, but now we have to play the [West Ham United] game first and then we’ll prepare for the Real Madrid game here at home to try and qualify,” Nunes stressed.

“That’s the only way we can look at it.”

The Portuguese midfielder pointed out that dramatic comebacks are far from rare in European football, especially in a competition as unpredictable as the Champions League.

“We’ve seen these kinds of results happen in similar situations before in the Champions League and we know that anything is possible.

“A game is a game, and anything can happen.

“I’m sure that we’ll go in with the mentality to try and win knowing that it’s difficult, but it’s not impossible.”

For Nunes, this high-pressure period is also the most thrilling stage of the campaign, when elite teams rise to the occasion.

“It’s the part of the season which is the most exciting. Everyone wants to play in these kinds of games.

“We know this is the part where you win, but the beginning is also important for us to be here in the end.”

He also highlighted the importance of consistency and focus as City attempt to navigate a relentless fixture schedule.

“This is where the pressure is on and where the big teams step up.

“We need to be very consistent and focus on winning every game at a time.

“When you have three days in between two games, you only have one day scratching your head.

“Of course, you have to feel and think about it – not overthink – but genuinely think what went wrong, to learn and to not make same mistakes we made.”

With league ambitions, European hopes and silverware all on the line, Manchester City now head into a defining week determined to prove they still have the mentality of champions.
