Inter Milan star wary of Atlanta threat ahead of Supercoppa Italiana showdown

Inter Milan midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is fully aware of the threat that Atalanta pose as the Nerazzurri gear up to face the current Serie A leaders in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final on Thursday.

The Nerazzurri are the reigning champions of the Supercoppa Italiana and they have also claimed the title in the past three consecutive editions, marking their longest streak since they won it five times in a row between 2006 and 2010.

However, an Atalanta side, who have stood out in the Serie A this season, stand between Inter and another final appearance. Despite Inter’s impressive record against the Bergamo based side, Mkhitaryan remains wary of the danger the Serie A leaders pose.

“Obviously, tomorrow’s match will be very important. We know that Atalanta are playing very well,” Mkhitaryan said.

“We will try to play at our best. It is very important for us to continue winning. We will do our best.

“We are here for the third time, we have lifted the trophy in the last two finals, and we hope to win this Super Cup as well.

“Without a doubt, we are aware that Atalanta are very strong, but we hope that our fans will give us a hand to win.”

Mkhitaryan feels his game has improved this season, driven by competition from Davide Frattesi and Piotr Zielinski. The Armenian has recorded one goal and three assists in Serie A, with three contributions in his last four matches.

“At the beginning of the season I wasn’t at my best, but now I’m back to my levels,” Mkhitaryan said.

“The competition from Frattesi and Zielinski has helped me a lot. They push me to improve. We all want to play, but we are here to give our best to win.

“Whoever starts is committed and so do those who take over from the bench.”
