David Moyes has expressed disappointment at the results after Everton suffered a late 2-0 defeat at Arsenal in Saturday’s Premier League encounter.
The Toffees held on for majority of the encounter and looked to be heading for a famous draw until the Gunners netted twice late on in the clash to seal the win.
Everton had several attempts to open the scoring in the clash, with Iliman Ndiaye, Beto and Dwight Mc-Neil all coming close with good attempts.
The latter also struck the woodwork in the first half with a superb curling effort, before Ndiaye fired the rebound over although his blushes was spared by the offside flag.
Reacting after the match, Moyes praised his side’s performance and believed they deserved more than the defeat in the encounter.
“Really disappointed we didn’t get something from the game because we certainly worked hard enough and earned it”, Moyes stated.
“Small things – Jordan could maybe do better with the goal. He gets a bit of it but not enough. But he’s made some unbelievable saves for us which have won us games, today we just needed [that] at the last minute. We just weren’t quite able to stop it”, he continued.
Victor Gyokeres opened the scoring after a mistake by Jordan Pickford in the 89th minute.
The England goalkeeper was caught out inside the Arsenal half in stoppage-time, allowing teenager Max Dowman score a second after a brilliant solo run.
Dowman became the youngest-ever scorer in Premier League history at 16 years and 73 days with the remarkable strike.
“Other than that, there’s no problems at all. A great performance by the players, they put in a great shift. It’s difficult with the officiating coming to Arsenal, so a lot of praise for the players”, Moyes added.
“I thought Raya had more saves than Jordan. He made a couple of great saves and we hit the post.”
Everton will turn their attention to next weekend’s clash against Chelsea, hoping to return to winning ways.
