Alvaro Arbeloa described it as a “perfect night” after Real Madrid secured a commanding victory over Elche.
Speaking in the press room at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, the Madrid coach reflected on an emotional evening that saw several academy players step into the spotlight.
The former Madrid defender admitted the performance carried echoes of one of the club’s most famous homegrown generations.
“For someone who came through the youth ranks and a coach who also rose through the youth system to the first team after working for many clubs, this is a day of immense happiness and pride,” Arbeloa said.
“It almost reminded me of the Real Madrid of the Quinta del Buitre.
“I’m sure Emilio, who was in the stands, is very proud of what he saw today.”
Arbeloa praised the character and quality shown by the young players, noting that performing with such confidence at the Bernabeu is never easy.
“I’m very happy to see them play and how they played.
“It’s not easy to demonstrate such personality, the effort they put in, the talent they possess, their heart…
“I’m sure the Bernabéu thoroughly enjoyed seeing a Real Madrid side full of talented homegrown players. It’s a day to remember for all Madrid fans.”
From a tactical perspective, the coach explained that the lineup was carefully chosen with both the immediate match and upcoming fixtures in mind.
“This match was very important for us. I selected a lineup with the intention of winning, knowing that we had made a huge effort on Wednesday and that we had to do it again on Tuesday.
“It was essential to win, and we did, thanks to the effort of the players who, since my arrival, have consistently shown me what Real Madrid means to them.”
The gaffer also highlighted the unity within the squad, particularly the way senior players have supported the younger members of the team during a period affected by injuries.
“I hope all Madrid fans know the effort they are making and that they are giving their all for Real Madrid.
“I hope we have a season that ends happily for everyone at the club.
“This must be acknowledged by a very committed squad, with many players out injured.
“With the help of the youth team players, who are doing exceptionally well and received a huge ovation from all the players.
“I want to thank them for how they are welcoming them, taking care of them, helping them, and giving them advice. It has been a perfect night.”
Looking at the broader picture of the season, Arbeloa admitted that while there have been impressive performances, maintaining consistency remains a key objective.
“We’ve had some very good moments, but we’ve lacked a bit of consistency.
“We’ve talked before about those famous peaks and valleys, where it seems like we’re on the upswing and then we have a few games where that little step back seems to undo it all.
“I’m very happy, and we still have a lot of room for improvement.”
He also stressed the importance of teamwork and discipline if Madrid are to maintain their momentum in the league.
“The other day’s game reflects what we need to be.
“We’re a very talented team, but if we don’t all work together, run, press, and support each other, it’s going to be hard to win any league match.
“We have to be a very humble and committed team when it comes to our work. If we do that, good things will come.”
Arbeloa also addressed the recent scoring pattern within the team, where goals have come from multiple positions rather than traditional forwards.
“We need them, and when Mbappe returns, we’ll still need them to keep scoring. When Kylian is back, he’ll finish many plays.
“But we’re seeing that they can help us, and that’s what we have to keep doing when Mbappé returns to the team.
“We’re really looking forward to them continuing to score goals so we can keep bringing joy.”
With young talent stepping up and experienced players guiding the squad, Real Madrid’s latest performance could prove to be an important turning point in their La Liga campaign.
