England captain Harry Kane has made it clear that winning the FIFA World Cup remains the ultimate objective for the Three Lions as preparations intensify ahead of the tournament.
The Bayern Munich striker arrives at the World Cup in outstanding form after another prolific season in Germany, where he played a pivotal role in the club’s domestic success.
Kane scored 61 goals across all competitions and capped off the campaign with a hat-trick in the DFB-Pokal final as Bayern completed a domestic double under Vincent Kompany.
With most of Thomas Tuchel’s 26-man squad now assembled in Florida for their pre-tournament training camp, attention is turning to England’s bid to end their long wait for major international silverware.
Having experienced several near-misses with the national team, Kane believes England have the quality and experience to challenge for football’s biggest prize.
Speaking about the team’s ambitions, the England skipper left no room for doubt.
“The ambition is to win it (the World Cup), obviously, that has to be our goal,” he said. “We know it will be difficult, but we have been close in recent years to winning a major tournament – we reached two Euro finals (in 2021 and 2024), a semi-final (in 2018) and a quarter-final (in 2022) of the World Cup.
“This year, we will have a new coach, new players. It is exciting – even if this kind of competition generates a lot of pressure.”
England’s recent tournament record has shown consistent progress, with deep runs at major competitions becoming the norm. However, lifting a trophy has remained elusive.
Under new manager Thomas Tuchel, the squad enters a fresh era with a blend of experienced leaders and emerging talents.
Kane will once again be expected to lead from the front as England aim to convert promise into silverware.
The 32-year-old striker understands the demands that come with wearing the captain’s armband on the biggest stage, but his confidence reflects the growing belief within the camp that England can finally end decades of World Cup frustration.
With preparations underway and expectations rising, Kane has delivered a clear message: England are heading to the World Cup with one target in mind — becoming champions.
