Cristian Romero commits to Tottenham Hotspur survival battle

Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero has vowed to give his all in the club’s remaining league games of the season as they battle to maintain their Premier League status.

The Europa League champions suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest on Sunday which saw them drop into 17th on the standings, just a single point above the drop zone.

Spurs remain winless in 2026 and are now closer to suffering relegation from the Premier League for the first time since 1977.

Romero, during an interview, applauded the support of the club’s supporters despite their poor form and has promised to put in their maximum efforts to ensure they survive relegation.

“It’s a difficult day for everyone, but the first thing is to speak about the fans. Thank you for today and always staying with us,” Romero said.

“They gave us fantastic support, but about us, it’s a bad day. Now it is finished and the most important thing is to understand the situation.”

Tottenham must now better the results of their fellow strugglers in their remaining seven league games of the season to keep their top-flight status at the end of the campaign.

Spurs also suffered a 7-5 aggregate defeat to Spanish side Atletico Madrid in their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 encounter, leaving them to now fully concentrate on survival in the league.

“It’s not easy but the most important thing is to get to national team and back here for the last seven finals”, Romero continued.

“I promise [to] put 200 per cent in every one and for me it is not easy, but we have to stay all together. It’s a bad day yeah, but we will go again.”

Tottenham return to Premier League action against Sunderland on April 12, hoping to end their poor run of form with a much-needed win.
