Former Real Madrid star Guti warns against Jose Mourinho return

Guti has weighed in on the growing speculation surrounding Jose Mourinho, urging Real Madrid to consider alternative options rather than bringing the Portuguese coach back to the Santiago Bernabeu.

As discussions around the club’s managerial future continue to gather pace, Guti acknowledged Mourinho’s legacy but questioned whether a reunion would be the right tactical move at this stage.

“Mourinho is a great manager, but I think he is no longer in his prime, in the sense that he has just come from Fenerbahce, took over at Benfica at a very difficult time,” Guti said, as quoted by MARCA.

“And I believe there are managers in better form than Mou whom I would sign,” the Real Madrid icon added.

Meanwhile, Mourinho himself has kept the door slightly open regarding his next step.

Speaking recently in Lisbon, the experienced manager hinted that his immediate future remains undecided, with discussions expected after the campaign wraps up.

With a negotiation window in place following the season, Mourinho and Benfica are set to review their position; leaving room for potential movement in the managerial market.

Should Real Madrid consider a return, it would mark a dramatic full-circle moment, 13 years after Mourinho’s initial spell where he delivered major silverware, including a LaLiga title, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup.

As the transfer window of managers begins to take shape, Madrid now face a crucial decision: stick with forward momentum or revisit a proven name from the past.
