Ethan Nwaneri’s loan spell at Olympique de Marseille has hit another stumbling block, with head coach Habib Beye urging the youngster to raise his level.
The 19-year-old arrived from Arsenal in January and initially made a bright impression, scoring on his debut under former boss Roberto De Zerbi against RC Lens.
However, momentum quickly shifted following De Zerbi’s departure, which saw him take over at Tottenham Hotspur.
Since then, Marseille have switched gears under Beye, and Nwaneri has struggled to cement his place in the squad.
Match rhythm has been hard to come by, with the England U21 international failing to start any of the last 11 fixtures.
Most recently, he remained on the bench throughout the 1-1 draw against Nice, further highlighting his reduced role.
As the season enters its decisive run-in, Beye did not hold back when addressing what the young midfielder must do to earn more minutes on the pitch.
“He’s a quality player, but he has to give us way more in his day-to-day commitment. Other players gave way more,” the manager said.
Those words underline the challenge facing Nwaneri, who must now respond both on and off the training ground if he is to break back into contention.
With only a few matches left in the campaign, time is running out for the teenager to make a meaningful impact.
As Marseille push toward their season objectives, the spotlight will remain firmly on Nwaneri, whether he can shift momentum and prove his worth before the final whistle of the campaign.
