Rayan Cherki has heaped praises on Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola for his impact following his impressive start to life at the former Premier League champions.
Cherki joined the Cityzens in a £34 million deal from Olympique Lyon last summer and has already grown into one of the club’s most important players this season after enduring a slow start.
The Frenchman has contributed to 15 goals for Man City in the Premier League this season, only behind Erling Haaland on 32.
Such has been the impact of the 22-year-old who has also dazzled fans with his flair and his brilliant footwork, shown in the EFL Cup final win over Arsenal in March.
Speaking ahead of Saturday’s clash against Brentford as they look to close in on Arsenal at the top of the standings, Cherki revealed Guardiola as the major factor behind his impressive start to life.
“There’s a lot of things I’ve learned from Pep so far, because every day we learn. Every day we see new things,” Cherki said.
“I think it’s his love of football, the commitment he brings every day in what he does. Even when it’s perfect, he’ll still trying to get better, and that’s something that’s similar to me.”
Manchester City recorded a disappointing 3-3 draw at Everton in their last outing which saw them slip further behind Arsenal in the race for the title.
Guardiola’s men must defeat a resurgent Brentford in Saturday’s clash, to keep their title hopes alive heading into the final few games of the season.
“That’s why I get on so well with Pep, because even when I play well, I’ll always try to find the little negative points that will make my game even better. It’s in those areas where I think he’s extraordinary”, Cherki added.
Cherki will be hoping for another impressive outing when Manchester City welcome Brentford to Etihad on Saturday in a gameweek 35 fixture.
