Rio Ferdinand has hailed the instant impact of Senne Lammens at Manchester United and has tipped him for a long-term role at the club.
The Belgian joined the Red Devils last summer in a deal worth around €20 million from Royal Antwerp and has instantly hit the ground running.
The 23-year-old has provided assurance in goal and has also become a major part of the club’s resurgence under Michael Carrick.
Lammens made several saves in a stunning display for Manchester United last weekend when they held Sunderland to a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light and Ferdinand now believes the young goalkeeper could go on to become the club’s first-choice option for years to come.
“The calmness that he’s brought, the amount of saves that he’s made and the difference-making that he’s made with this team, I don’t think you can put a number on that,” Ferdinand said.
“He’s been superb and he’s young. That’s what I love about him, he’s young, he’s still going to be getting more experiences and he’s only going to get better from now on.”
Lammens has made 30 appearances for Manchester United this season and has been a starter since making his debut under Ruben Amorim last October.
The 23-year-old, however, has a more difficult task on international level, with Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois ahead of him in the pecking order.
“I don’t think it matters how good or bad he plays, I think he’ll be the same level – very level-headed and he won’t get out of his pram too much about anything”, Ferdinand added.
“I think he’s one for the next 10 years at Manchester United, he’s going to be the No.1. He’s someone again, got a definite great foundation to start building from what he’s shown this season.”
Manchester United return to Premier League action this weekend when they face Nottingham Forest on Sunday.
