Hansi Flick has expressed delight over talks of a contract extension at Spanish champions Barcelona, after guiding them to a second straight league win on Sunday.
The Blaugrana won a second consecutive La Liga title after defeating rivals Real Madrid 2-0 in the El Clasico on Sunday, marking the first time either team would seal the title in the historic clash.
It also marked a second title in two seasons for former Bayern Munich coach Flick, and a fifth trophy overall as Barcelona have become the most dominant Spanish team since his arrival.
The German had joined the club in 2024 after the departure of Xavi Hernandez on a two-year deal, but will now put to pen an extension that will keep him at the Spotify Camp Nou until 2028.
“It’s a really good deal. We can go to 2028 and then we see; if everything is right, we make the decision to go one year more”, Flick said.
“It’s a big commitment for us to work harder, harder than this season, to try and reach the best level with the team and to win titles.
“This is normal for Barcelona and I know everyone has this amazing dream to win the Champions League. We tried. We try it again.”
Barcelona are now aiming to win their three remaining games to reach 100 points for the season, marking the third time ever in the history of the La Liga.
Real Madrid achieved the feat first in 2012 and Barcelona responded in 2013 and are now hoping for a repeat of that remarkable feat this season.
“Our goal is 100 points. To reach this, we have to win three games”, Flick added.
“This is the goal for the next three games. We celebrate a lot, but it’s also possible to play good.”
Barcelona face Alaves later today, hoping for another victory, before completing their season with matches against Real Betis and Valencia.
