Fulham’s Silva breaks silence on Benfica rumours

Fulham manager Marco Silva has firmly denied reports linking him with a move to Benfica, insisting no offer or discussions have taken place with the Portuguese giants.

Speculation around Silva’s future intensified ahead of Fulham’s Premier League clash against Wolves, with reports in Portugal suggesting he could replace Jose Mourinho at Benfica this summer.

However, the Fulham boss moved quickly to shut down the rumours while addressing the media on Friday.

“Let’s be clear about it because I think it is important to clarify that I didn’t have any offer from Benfica, I didn’t have any conversation with Benfica and it is important right now to tell the truth about that situation,” Silva said.

Meanwhile, Silva’s current contract at Fulham is set to expire this summer, adding further intrigue to the uncertainty surrounding his future at Craven Cottage.

Despite the growing speculation, the 48-year-old stressed that Fulham are already making plans for next season behind the scenes.

He continued: “Of course we are preparing for the next season with the football club.

“We have been having meetings and of course the final decision will come and when it will come we are going to know from myself and from the football club, but everything is being prepared from us.”

Furthermore, Silva admitted there is still no timeline on when a final decision regarding his future will be made.

“I don’t know when the decision will come, I don’t know,” he added.

“It is a decision that we have to take, of course myself I have to take, but when it is coming I cannot tell you, I don’t know.

“Let’s see, now we are focused on the Wolves game and after that we will see what is going to happen.”

As things stand, Silva remains focused on finishing the season strongly with Fulham, while speculation over his long-term future continues to gather pace.
