Harry Kane believes England can go all the way at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and has backed them to end the country’s 60-year wait for a major trophy.
The Three Lions head into the upcoming World Cup tournament hoping to finally win a major trophy since they won the World Cup in 1966.
England have reached consecutive finals of the European Championship, losing to Italy in 2020 and Spain in 2024, while they also reached the last four of the World Cup in 2018.
However, Kane believes the current crop of players possess the quality to finally end the country’s long drought for a major trophy.
“I think our squad is as good as we’ve ever had,” Kane said.
“I think when you look at the starting XI, you look at the players coming off the bench, we’re going into the tournament as one of the favourites.
“We’ve been building together as a team over the past few camps under Thomas.
“I think we’ve set the standard, and now we look forward to continuing this into the World Cup next month”, he continued.
England have been placed in group L alongside Croatia, Ghana and Panama, the Three Lions will begin their campaign against their fellow European side on June 17, before facing Ghana and Panama on June 23 and 27 respectively.
Thomas Tuchel’s side are favourite to advance from the group and are also among the top contenders to win the title, with Kane expected to lead the line barring any injuries.
“There’s always something special about playing at the World Cup”, Kane added.
“There’s a special feeling inside, especially when you win. We know how much a World Cup win would mean, not just to us, but to the fans and the country itself.
“That’s what drives us on the pitch, and hopefully we can bring it home for the fans”, the Bayern Munich forward concluded.
