Former Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian has officially announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an emotional end to a career that spanned more than two decades.
The Spanish shot-stopper will play the final match of his career on Saturday when Real Betis face Levante in their last game of the 2025/26 season.
Adrian’s retirement marks the conclusion of a journey that saw him enjoy memorable spells in both England and Spain, including a successful five-year stint at Liverpool.
The veteran goalkeeper joined the Reds on a free transfer in the summer of 2019 after leaving West Ham United.
Despite arriving initially as back-up to Alisson Becker, Adrian quickly found himself thrust into action after the Brazilian suffered an early injury.
Just days into his Liverpool career, Adrian made his debut after replacing Alisson and soon became an unlikely hero in the UEFA Super Cup final against Chelsea, saving the decisive penalty in the shootout to help Jurgen Klopp’s side secure silverware.
He also played a significant role during Liverpool’s historic 2019/20 Premier League title-winning campaign, making 11 league appearances as the Reds collected 99 points to end their 30-year wait for the championship.
