The stage is set for Nigeria’s Super Falcons to discover their group-stage opponents for the upcoming 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), as the draw takes place on Friday at the Mohamed VI Football Complex in Sale, Morocco.
The Nigerian team, winners of a record nine Women’s AFCON titles, will be aiming to reclaim continental supremacy after South Africa clinched the last edition in 2022.
With a competitive field of 12 teams, including top contenders like Morocco, Zambia, and Ghana, the tournament is expected to be a true test for the Falcons.
This year’s competition will employ a familiar format, with teams divided into three groups of four. The top two teams from each group, alongside the two best-performing third-placed sides, will advance to the quarter-finals, ensuring a fiercely contested tournament.
The Super Falcons’ status in African women’s football is backed by their historical success, but recent challenges from teams like South Africa and Zambia shows the growing competitiveness of the tournament.
Nigeria will look to veteran players like Rasheedat Ajibade, Chiamaka Nnadozie and a host of others to lead the charge in their quest for a 10th title.
Other nations vying for glory include Algeria, Botswana, DR Congo, Senegal, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Mali, each determined to make their mark in Morocco from 5th to 26th July 2025.
