Celtic have officially confirmed the appointment of Martin O’Neill as manager on a one-year contract, with the club holding an option for a further season.
The experienced coach returns after guiding Celtic through a remarkable spell that delivered another historic chapter in the club’s success story.
O’Neill’s latest achievement came last season when he inspired Celtic to their 56th Premiership title and completed a memorable league and Scottish Cup double after a dramatic end to the campaign.
The victory marked his ninth major honour connected with the club, adding to a legacy that includes Celtic’s first domestic Treble in 32 years in 2001 and the unforgettable European final run in Seville in 2003.
Celtic Interim Chairman Brian Wilson welcomed O’Neill’s return, highlighting his leadership and winning mentality.
“I warmly welcome Martin’s re-appointment and look forward to more of the same leadership, inspiration and success he has delivered for the club,” said Wilson.
“The achievements which he and the team secured in the season just gone have created a great platform for the one that lies ahead.
“This is the start of a busy summer and we will ensure that we are in the best possible position to compete, with Martin back at the helm.”
O’Neill expressed his excitement about continuing his journey with Celtic and thanked the players, staff, board and supporters for their role in last season’s success.
“It is once again a great privilege for me to continue as Celtic manager. Last season will live long in all our memories and to be part of that success has in a big way whetted the appetite to work again for more days like those and bring our supporters those moments.”
The manager also stressed that Celtic must continue pushing forward rather than relying on past achievements.
“We know of course that Celtic can never rest on past success so we are now aiming to drive forward together in the coming season as we aim to deliver again for the club and our fans.”
With O’Neill now confirmed, Celtic will turn their attention to summer preparations as they look to defend their domestic dominance and compete strongly on the European stage.
