Andy Robertson has opened up on how Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi convinced him to join the club this summer.
Robertson completed a move to the North London club on a free transfer after his contract at former Premier League champions Liverpool expired at the end of the 2025-26 season.
The Scotland captain was a key player for the Reds since arriving at the club and enjoyed a hugely successful nine-year stay at the club.
However, he will now play a major role in helping Tottenham’s quest for a better campaign next season and has revealed how De Zerbi helped convince him to join the club.
“The manager is a huge pull”, Robertson said.
“I’ve had chats with him. I had a phone call with him, and his staff seem so good at what they do, and how they want to play.
“It was a great phone call. We know of each other – he knows me as a player, I know him as a manager and we’re excited to work with each other.”
De Zerbi only joined Spurs in March during their battle for survival and helped steer them away from the drop, as they finished 17th and avoided dropping to the Championship.
Both parties will now work together at the North London club next season, after previously playing on the opposite sides during De Zerbi’s time at Brighton.
“He’s well known in world football as a fantastic manager and hopefully I can do good things under him. I think this is a club that’s going places and it’s the perfect time for me to be a part of it.”
