Manchester United preparing €50 million January bid for Araujo

Former English Premier League champions Manchester United are preparing a €50 million bid for Benfica star Tomas Araujo in January.

Following the appointment of Portuguese tactician Ruben Amorim earlier this month, there has been building expectations that Manchester United will experience a significant squad change in the coming months.

The Red Devils have already been linked with many players in Europe, but nothing is concrete yet. Still, Manchester United are expected to make one or more signings in January, as Amorim plans to bring in players who can function well with his playing style.

According to new reports from Transfer News Live, Manchester United are lining up a €50 million offer for Benfica defender Tomas Araujo. They could send in a bid in January and make him the first signing in Amorim’s tenure.

The 22-year-old defender just became a regular for Benfica this season, registering 13 appearances across all competitions.

However, the fee might just be overboard.  Araujo is valued at just €15 million on Transfermarkt. Also, this is just his first season as a regular starter at Benfica.

The 22-year-old center-back could provide something different from what Manchester United have at the moment. He has attracted interest from Crystal Palace and reigning French champions PSG previously, and Manchester United would have to outbid them to land their man.

Nonetheless, the fact that Amorim is Portuguese could be a key factor in the deal. Just like Erik Ten Hag who attracted players from the Dutch Eredivisie, more Portuguese players may be finding their way to Old Trafford in the coming months.
