Hull City have confirmed that nobody was injured after midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath was involved in a road traffic accident near the club’s training ground.
The incident is the second car crash involving a Hull player in the same area within a matter of weeks, raising attention around the club’s training base.
Sky Sports News understands that Gourna-Douath, 24, was involved in the accident while driving his Mercedes near Hull’s training ground. Images circulating on social media appeared to show the vehicle lying on its side following the crash.
However, Hull have moved quickly to confirm that there were no injuries.
“Hull City is aware of images circulating on social media following a road traffic accident near the club’s training ground and can confirm that no one was harmed in the incident,” the club said in a statement.
The confirmation will come as a relief to the club and supporters, particularly given the circumstances surrounding the incident and the earlier crash involving another Hull player.
On September 11, Sorba Thomas was involved in a separate car accident in the same area. That incident also brought attention to road safety around the club’s training-ground surroundings.
For Hull, the immediate priority will be ensuring that Gourna-Douath is safe following the latest incident. The midfielder joined the Tigers with expectations of contributing on the pitch, making the confirmation that no one was harmed the most important development.
The latest crash comes during a period in which Hull are continuing their preparations for the demands of the season. As a result, attention will now turn towards the player’s condition and whether the incident has any impact on his involvement with the team.
At this stage, however, Hull City have not indicated that Gourna-Douath suffered any injury.
The images of the damaged Mercedes quickly spread across social media, but the club’s statement has provided clarity and ruled out reports of anyone being hurt in the accident.
With the incident occurring close to Hull’s training ground and following Thomas’ crash in the same area last month, the two incidents are likely to attract further attention.
For now, though, the key message from Hull City is clear: no one was harmed.
The club will continue to focus on its footballing commitments while Gourna-Douath’s situation is monitored following the accident.
