Enzo Fernandez gets No. 17 shirt after £125m Manchester City move

Enzo Fernandez has officially picked his Manchester City number — and the new signing is already talking like a man ready to chase trophies.

The Argentine midfielder will wear the No. 17 shirt after completing his British-record-equalling £125 million move to the Premier League champions.

Fernandez’s arrival represents another major statement from City, with the 25-year-old stepping into a squad built to compete for every major honour available.

And within hours of completing the blockbuster transfer, Fernandez made his ambition crystal clear.

Speaking to City Studios in his first interview as a Manchester City player, the midfielder promised supporters that the club’s winning culture will remain at the heart of his new adventure.

“I’m really happy to be here,” Fernandez said. “I always dreamed of being at a club as big as City.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity. It’s a very emotional moment for me and my family, to take this step at 25 years old, in a football career that I always dreamed of.

“I’m so happy to be here, enjoying these first few hours I’ve had at the club. I can already see just how big it is and, we will enjoy ourselves and win lots of things together.”

The message could hardly be clearer. Fernandez has not arrived at Manchester City simply to settle into Pep Guardiola’s squad. He wants trophies — and plenty of them.

“Manchester City have to win every trophy they compete for,” he said. “In every competition we play in, we have to compete and win, because this club’s history demands that.”

That mentality is exactly what City supporters will want to hear from a £125m signing.

Fernandez also revealed that he had little hesitation when Manchester City made their interest known.

The opportunity to join a club that has dominated English football and established itself among Europe’s elite was simply too big to ignore.

“To be honest, from the first day they believed in me and called me to say they wanted me to join the club, I didn’t hesitate for a second.

“It’s a club that has won a lot in recent years. It’s a club that is making history in football and, for me, it’s a huge challenge.

“To be able to come here, help the club and keep winning things together, that has been my goal since they called me; to come to this club knowing we are going to win many trophies together.”

Fernandez’s No. 17 shirt is ready, his £125m price tag is firmly attached to the transfer record books, and the pressure that comes with becoming one of City’s biggest signings is about to begin.

The midfielder arrives at a club where success is not treated as a bonus. It is the expectation. For Fernandez, that appears to be exactly what he wants.

At 25, he believes the move represents a major milestone in a career built around a dream of reaching football’s biggest stages.

Manchester City have made their investment. Fernandez has made his promise. Now comes the hard part — delivering trophies.

And if his first words as a City player are anything to go by, the new No. 17 is already hungry for more.
