Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been convicted of a drink-driving offence after testing significantly above the legal alcohol limit during a police checkpoint in Gran Canaria.
The 23-year-old footballer was stopped at approximately 6:30 a.m. CET on August 16 while driving a Porsche Macan.
According to confirmation from the press office of Gran Canaria’s High Court of Justice, Asencio subsequently tested positive in two breathalyser examinations.
His first test reportedly recorded 0.90 mg/l, followed by a second reading of 0.88 mg/l — figures stated to be four times above the legal limit.
Asencio admitted the offence during a summary trial, bringing the legal process to a swift conclusion.
The Real Madrid player was fined €14,400, calculated at €120 per day for four months. His driving licence was also suspended for eight months.
The incident has now created an unwanted off-field issue for the Spanish giants, who were aware of the situation but declined to make a public comment when contacted.
However, a source confirmed that Real Madrid are expected to deal with the matter internally, with the club set to apply its disciplinary procedures.
The timing is particularly difficult for Asencio, who is already unavailable for selection because of injury.
The defender suffered a muscle problem in his right thigh on July 30 and remains under medical observation.
Real Madrid’s official medical report confirmed that his recovery was being monitored, while sources indicated that the defender could return to the squad around the middle of September.
Away from the latest conviction, Asencio is also connected to a separate ongoing legal matter.
He was indicted last May by Gran Canaria’s High Court of Justice in a case concerning the alleged distribution of explicit images without consent.

The evidence, according to the reported charges, established that Asencio was not involved in recording the videos.
The latest drink-driving conviction is therefore a separate matter and adds further scrutiny to a difficult period for the young defender.
