Italian side Juventus have announced the arrival of Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur on a loan deal.
The 23-year-old was linked with a move from the North London club this summer following several high profile arrivals which would have limited his playing minutes.
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi has already signed the likes of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, increasing the competition for playing places in the midfield areas.
Sarr has now completed a season-long loan move to Juventus, where he will be hoping to continue his development and remarkable rise.
“Senegalese midfielder Pape Matar Sarr has joined Juventus from Premier League side Tottenham”, the Italian club announced.
“The 23-year-old, who turns 24 later this month, arrives in Turin from England, and brings with him plenty of European experience.
“Having begun his career in his native Senegal, Sarr then moved to Metz in France, and it was there that he made a name for himself at a young age and put himself on the radar of a number of European clubs. He signed with Tottenham in 2021, but remained in Ligue 1 for a season on loan.”
Sarr made 141 appearances across all competitions for Tottenham, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists.
However, he has been left out of all their three games so far this season, including the emphatic 5-1 win over Charlton Athletic in the EFL Cup second round.
“A dynamic and versatile midfielder who boasts physicality but also brings skill and intensity in both phases of the game, Sarr gained a lot of experience in England and accumulated over 100 Premier League appearances with Spurs.
“He was also part of the club’s 2024/25 Europa League winning campaign. At international level, Sarr has become a key player with Senegal, and played his part in their 2022 Africa Cup of Nations success. Now, a new chapter awaits him in Bianconero.”
Sarr now heads to the Allianz Stadium as he hopes to help the club challenge for its first Scudetto in six years. He could make his debut in a blockbuster clash against AC Milan on Sunday as well.
