Everton’s fan association has criticized the club’s summer transfer plans and asked for clarifications after their missed transfers on summer deadline day.
The Toffees were involved in a dramatic deadline day saga as they failed to seal moves despite coming very close to an agreement.
Everton were initially linked with a move for USMNT striker Folarin Balogun and were very keen on him, before they withdrew their interest after concerns during the player’s medicals.
They then explored a loan move for Man United’s Joshua Zirkzee. However, the Red Devils rebuffed their attempt and they went back all in for Balogun.
However, the move eventually collapse as the Monaco star opted not to sign as an Everton player and will remain in France instead.
“The Fans’ Forum believes supporters deserve a clear explanation of what went wrong during this transfer window, why key targets were not secured and what measures will be put in place to ensure these failures are not repeated”, the statement read.
Everton had already let Beto leave the club to join Fiorentina has they hoped to sign a replacement, but they missed out on other targets.
This now leaves Thierno Barry as the club’s only recognized striker at least until the winter when they can make new signings.
However, they signed Jack Grealish from Manchester City and are exploring the possibility of signing Jamie Vardy on a free transfer as well.
“The decision to allow players to leave without having suitable replacements secured has left the squad looking dangerously short in key areas,” the Fans’ Forum said.
“The collapse of yet another transfer at the 11th hour only adds to that frustration.
Everton return to action in the Premier League this weekend when they welcome Manchester United to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
