Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has praised Argentine forward Julian Alvarez after he scored and assisted in Saturday’s 5-0 away win at Real Valladolid.
Alvarez had been under criticism for his poor form after he joined Atletico Madrid in the summer from English Champions Manchester City, and Simeone has commended the 24-year old resilience and hardwork.
“He needed time. All footballers need time, and those who have hierarchy have to be waited for. Julian, since he started, has gone from less to more. He grew in his ability to interpret how Atletico plays.
He comes from a different style in Argentina, and also totally different at City. He needed his time. Atletico is this, and they interpret it better and better. All his attributes do our team a lot of good”, Simeone said.
Diego Simeone’s side have now won seven games in a row and it’s no coincidence that Alvarez has scored six goals in this period. His strike yesterday took him to ten goals in all competitions this season.
Atletico Madrid took the lead in the feisty encounter through on-loan Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet. They doubled their lead ten minutes later through the in-form Alvarez before further goals from Rodrigo De Paul, Antoine Griezmann and Alexander Sorlørth compiled the misery on their opponent.
“His nobility in playing football. From there his hierarchy is strengthened, he goes from less to more and finds the path he seeks”, he continued.
Alvarez will look to continue his impressive scoring form when Atletico Madrid travel to lower division side Cacereño in a Copa Del Rey match on December 5.
