Benjamin Sesko has promised to “fully dedicate” himself to recovering from his ongoing shin problem after another injury setback forced him out of action.
The Manchester United striker had started to find his rhythm after a promising first campaign, but the recurrence of shin pain has brought his momentum to a sudden halt.
Sesko scored 12 goals during his first season and looked set to build on that tally this term. However, a shin injury suffered in May ruled him out of all of United’s pre-season friendlies and delayed his preparations for the new campaign.
The Slovenia international eventually returned to feature in United’s opening six matches of the season, scoring twice.
But just as the striker began to regain his sharpness, the same problem returned.
Sesko was forced to miss United’s 1-1 draw at Fulham on Sunday and has also withdrawn from Slovenia duty, leaving him facing another period away from competitive football.
The setback is particularly frustrating for the 24-year-old, who remains an important attacking option for both club and country.
Sesko addressed the situation directly on Instagram, apologising to Slovenia supporters while making it clear that his immediate priority is recovering properly rather than rushing his return.
“I am very sorry that I will have to miss the next matches of the national team,” Sesko posted on Instagram.
“I have always played for Slovenia and will always play with heart and pride. The most important thing now is to fully dedicate myself to recovery.
“I am already working on getting back on the field as soon as possible and helping the national team and the club again.”
The message underlines Sesko’s determination to return as quickly as possible, but the striker also knows that getting his recovery right is now crucial.
After seeing the shin issue interrupt his preparations before the season, another recurrence has made patience even more important.
For Manchester United, his absence removes a key attacking option at a time when the club will want its forwards available for a demanding run of fixtures.
For Slovenia, meanwhile, Sesko’s absence is another blow, particularly given his importance to the national team’s attack.
Despite the disappointment, the striker has backed his international teammates to step up in his absence.
“I believe in our boys, and I am sure that they will show the team spirit that has always adorned us this time.”
Sesko also made it clear that his connection with Slovenia remains as strong as ever, despite being unable to represent the country on the pitch.
“I can’t wait to be able to wear the jersey with the national emblem again and, until then, I will be Slovenia’s biggest fan.”
For now, the focus is recovery.
Sesko’s next challenge is not finding the net or proving his attacking credentials. It is getting his body right, eliminating the recurring shin problem and returning to the pitch ready to help Manchester United and Slovenia again.
After another frustrating interruption, the striker has made his priority clear: recover properly, return strongly and make up for lost time.
