Rose warns Aston Villa as Bournemouth prepare for Carabao Cup battle

Marco Rose believes Bournemouth are well placed to continue their impressive run as they prepare to host Aston Villa in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup fourth-round clash.

The Cherries head into the encounter at the Vitality Stadium with momentum firmly on their side after recording consecutive 3-0 victories against AC Milan and Manchester United. However, Rose has warned his players that they must remain focused and ready for another demanding test against an Aston Villa side also enjoying a strong run of form.

The match, which will be shown live on Sky Sports, presents Bournemouth with an opportunity to carry their recent performances into the cup competition. Rose is confident in the depth of his squad, pointing to the number of players pushing for opportunities as a major advantage ahead of a busy schedule.

The Bournemouth manager believes competition for places will allow him to make changes without sacrificing the team’s ability to compete. Several players have impressed in training and recent appearances, giving Rose options as he looks to balance freshness with the ambition to progress.

“We have to be aware and we have to be ready,” Rose said.

“I feel the squad, right now, is in a very good spot because I have players on the bench that deserve to play – Julio at left-back, Bafo (Bafode Diakite) he came in, Alvaro (Rodriguez) improved a lot the last couple of weeks, Brookesy (David Brookes) is waiting for his match time.

“Of course, we are going to see another team on Wednesday but we are going to have a competitive team, that’s for sure.

“I never throw a game away just to be fresh on the weekend. I want to win every game, we want to be competitive in every competition. But you have to deserve it and the good thing is most of the lads [do].

“Right now, we are in a good spot, it’s important we stay healthy and that’s why I have to manage the load.

“When you start to lose two or three players, you cannot rotate anymore and that’s when you get into a situation where you start to struggle and get in trouble.”

Rose’s comments underline his determination to take the Carabao Cup seriously rather than prioritise the Premier League fixture that follows. While rotation remains an important part of managing the squad, the Bournemouth boss insists every player must earn their opportunity, with competitiveness across the team central to his plans.

Keeping the squad fit will also be crucial. Rose recognises that injuries can quickly reduce his options, making it harder to maintain performance levels across multiple competitions. His challenge is to give players valuable minutes while ensuring Bournemouth remain strong enough to handle Villa’s threat.

The visitors arrive in equally confident mood after winning four consecutive matches, including an impressive victory over Manchester City on Saturday. Their recent results suggest Bournemouth will face a serious test against a side carrying its own momentum into the cup tie.

Rose is aware of the challenge posed by Unai Emery’s team but believes Bournemouth have the qualities to make the contest difficult for their opponents.

“They have quite a clear approach with the coach Unai.

“I like the way they play, hard to play – but I think we’re hard to play, and we are going to compete on Wednesday.”

With both teams in strong form, Wednesday’s meeting promises a competitive battle for a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals. Bournemouth will look to build on their recent statement victories, while Rose’s emphasis on squad depth and fitness could prove important as the demands of the season increase.

The Cherries have momentum, options and confidence on their side. Now, they must turn those advantages into another result against an Aston Villa team determined to extend its winning run.
