Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is on the road to recovery after undergoing successful surgery to repair the scapholunate ligament in his right wrist.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury during Udinese’s Serie A match against Genoa last week. The club previously reported that the injury was the result of a trauma, leading to a torn ligament in the wrist.
“Maduka Okoye meanwhile has torn the scapholunate ligament in his right wrist following a trauma. He will have surgery to repair the ligament in the next few days,” read an earlier statement from Udinese.
The operation was performed on Monday by Dr. Loris Pegoli at the La Madonnina clinic in Milan. The procedure was deemed a complete success, with the club providing an update on their official website.
“Udinese Calcio announces that, today, Maduka Okoye underwent surgery to repair the injury to the scapholunate ligament of his right wrist. The operation, performed by Dr. Loris Pegoli at the ‘La Madonnina’ clinic in Milan, was a complete success. The footballer will begin rehabilitation in the coming weeks,” the statement read.
The Nigerian international, who has been a key player for Udinese this season with 14 league appearances, is expected to commence his rehabilitation process soon. However, the goalkeeper will be sidelined for a few weeks as he works towards regaining full fitness.
Okoye’s absence comes as a blow to Udinese, but the club remains optimistic about his recovery.
