Brennan Johnson scored the only goal of the game in the first-half as Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester United 1-0 to win the Europa League title on Wednesday night.

The high stakes encounter started with the Red Devils on the front foot, with Amad Diallo lively in the early exchanges.
However, Spurs broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute when a mixup in defence by Luke Shaw allowed Johnson to sneak in at the near post with the slightest of touches to give them the lead.
Man United dominated the second half with Vicario saving from Leny Yoro’s attempt before Micky Van de Ven saved the goalkeeper’s blushes, when he cleared a Rasmus Hojlund’s header off the line.
Fernandes then headed wide from inside the box before a Luke Shaw’s goal-bound header was saved once again by Vicario, to keep Spurs in the lead.
The night however belonged to Ange Postecoglou’s side, with the Australian fulfilling his earlier claim of winning a trophy in his second season.
The triumph ended a 17-year wait for a major trophy, while they also won a first European trophy since 1984, qualifying for next season’s UCL in the process.

Relief for Postecoglou
The Australian had been under intense pressure all season due to the club’s poor form, with the Europa League final a deciding factor in his future at the club.
With a place in next season’s UCL secured, it remains to be seen if Postecoglou has done enough to secure his job or if he will be dismissed before the summer.
