Real Betis sporting director Manu Fajardo has revealed that the Spanish side are hopeful of reuniting with Manchester United outcast Antony, following the Brazilian winger’s impactful loan spell at the club last season.
Antony enjoyed a resurgence at Estadio Benito Villamarin while on a half-season loan last term, recording 14 goal contributions in 26 matches and playing a key role in helping Betis reach the UEFA Conference League final.
He has since returned to Manchester United but was excluded from pre-season activities to give him time to secure a move elsewhere. The Brazilian is reported to be prioritizing a return to Betis but due to the financial constraints of the LaLiga club, his future remains unsettled.
These constraints prevented Betis from immediately pursuing a permanent deal at the expiration of his loan spell, but Fajardo confirmed during the unveiling of new signing Nelson Deossa this week that reaching an agreement for Antony remains a goal, provided the club can raise the needed funds.
“The desire of both parties is for the player to be here,” Fajardo said to the assembled media.
“Every day that passes is a positive reason, and if Antony is here, it’s because he’s in the books. The important thing is the sustainability of the club, ensuring that the players and all members of the Real Betis Balompié family are paid.
“It’s good to think big, but you have to keep your feet on the ground, and it will always be within the estimated financial parameters.”
If a move to Real Betis does not materialise, Antony could still have other opportunities, though his strong preference remains with the Spanish club. He has attracted strong interest from the Saudi Pro League and could eventually be forced to settle for a move to the lucrative league.
