David Moyes voiced his frustration at refereeing decisions after Everton’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby at Anfield.
The Toffees boss was particularly unhappy with how referee Darren England handled quick free-kicks. Everton midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was booked for taking one too quickly, sparking anger from Moyes.
“I think three minutes was strange,” claimed Moyes when asked about the limited amount of added time in the second half, before letting his feelings known on the quick free-kicks.
“We’ve played teams who have taken quick free-kicks in games and have caught us out – but today every quick free-kick had to be stopped and brought back, then we get a booking for it.
“I find it quite unbelievable. We’re trying to keep the game quick, with the ball in play, I find that difficult. Maybe the referee needed to let it go a bit, to quicken the game up.”
The defeat leaves Everton still searching for consistency, while Moyes insists officiating standards must improve if the pace of games is to remain fair.
