Crystal Palace left it late, but the noise inside Selhurst Park told the story as Evann Guessand stepped up to deliver a dramatic 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Introduced from the bench, the forward fed off the crowd’s energy and repaid their belief with a decisive moment right at the death.
Thrown into the action in the 72nd minute in place of Chadi Riad, Guessand entered a contest that felt set in frustration.
Wolves, despite being reduced to ten men, were stubbornly holding onto their clean sheet, forcing Palace to keep probing and recycling possession in search of an opening.
Then, just as the clock ticked into the 90th minute, the breakthrough arrived.
A low delivery from Tyrick Mitchell flashed across the box and Guessand reacted instinctively, firing home to spark celebrations around Selhurst Park and hand Palace a precious three points.
After the final whistle, the match-winner was quick to highlight the collective effort — and the role the fans played in pushing the team over the line.
“Today we fought for this win,” Guessand told Palace TV. “I think we deserved to win today, even after a long time without a victory.
“But let’s keep pushing now, because I think with the quality we have in this team, from the keeper to the striker, we can do something good.”
The Frenchman also praised the patience and discipline shown by his teammates, especially against opponents down to ten men.
“I thought the team showed really good determination to keep pushing and be patient,” he said.
“Because sometimes you can be a bit lazy after a red card [for the opposition], but we kept pushing.”
Above all, Guessand reserved special words for the supporters who stayed vocal throughout a tense afternoon.
“Every time they [the supporters] are here supporting us, we feel it,” he added.
“We felt it today. We felt again the support of our fans and that was really important.”
In the end, Palace’s persistence matched the passion in the stands, and Guessand’s late strike ensured Selhurst Park had its moment — one that could yet prove a turning point as the season gathers pace.
