Former Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri could be appointed as an assistant coach at French Ligue 1 club Stade Rennes.
Nasri enjoyed a decent career, playing for top clubs like Sevilla, Arsenal, Manchester City, and Marseille before retiring in 2021. Aside from his brilliance on the ball, the retired France international’s career was characterized by drama off the pitch.
Towards the end of his career, Nasri was found guilty of doping and was banned from football for 18 months. At the time, he was on loan at Antalyaspor. After his ban, he then moved to West Ham where he struggled to perform.
Afterwards, he moved to Anderlecht. But he got into trouble there after flying to Dubai without informing the club. And following that move, his deal was terminated.
Since he retired, Nasri has been working as a pundit for Canal+, but he has also been working on his coaching badges.
It appears the former Premier League star will now have an opportunity to use his coaching CV. This is as Transfer News Live reports that Nasri is set to join Jorge Sampaoli at Rennes.
Sampaoli is set to be appointed as the permanent manager at Rennes following the dismissal of Julien Stephan, who had a poor start to the campaign.
Once Sampaoli arrives, he is expected to bring in his own backroom staff, and Nasri is expected to be part of the entourage. Recall that Nasri and Sampaoli already have history together as worked together at Sevilla I’m the 2016/17 season. The Rennes job will be Nasri’s first attempt at coaching, and he will be looking to make an impact.
