Tottenham set to lose Champions League winning star

German attacker Timo Werner will return to RB Leipzig when his 18-month loan at Tottenham expires at the end of the season.

Werner has had a difficult past five years. The 28-year-old striker rejoined Chelsea in 2020 after four impressive seasons with Leipzig, but he failed to impress much. Hence, he was resold to RB Leipzig in 2022.

Despite a largely uninspiring second stint, Tottenham went on to acquire his services on an 18-month loan deal. Unfortunately, for both parties, he has not been able to help them much.

So far, the former Chelsea man has only been able to contribute three goals and six assists in 33 appearances, and most of his displays have been below par.

With his deal set to expire next summer, there has been a lot of talk about his future as to whether Tottenham will make his deal permanent or let him leave.

Now, according to Transfer News Live, the Tottenham hierarchy seem to have decided to let Werner leave at the end of the season.

The German forward’s contract expires in 2026, but he might have to even start looking for a new club, as Leipzig look quite stocked with attacking options and may not want to add a struggling player to their roster.

With the situation, it is unlikely that Leipzig will change their stand concerning Werner unless he hits form soon and becomes a vital player for them this season.
