Arsenal skipper Martin Odegaard has given his thoughts on the Gunners’ chances in the ongoing Premier League title race which has Liverpool holding a 16-point lead at the summit of the English top-flight.
Odegaard and Arsenal have actively battled for Premier League glory over the past couple of seasons. However, the Gunners’ quest for a first PL crown since 2004 ended in near misses with Manchester City narrowly edging them to glory on both occasions.
This season, the North Londoners are once again in the running albeit against an utterly majestic Liverpool side under the tutelage of Arne Slot. Their form has been questionable at times and injuries to key stars like Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus have done little to help their cause.
Liverpool are currently sixteen points clear at the top of the standings and it would require a disastrous collapse of epic proportions to see them relinquish their position. However, Odegaard, who also missed part of the season due to injury, believes Arsenal are still in the title race.
“We have to do our job, we can only hope and win our games, then we will see what happens,” he told Arsenal club channels.
“Obviously we’ve put ourselves in a difficult position at the moment but we have to keep going, we have to try and win every time we play and we will see what happens with Liverpool, but I think the main thing is to focus on us and we can win the games.
“We will fight until the end, I think that’s the mindset of everyone, we’ve been fighting three years in a row for the title and a few years back we were leading with a lot of points and we ended second, so in football everything is possible, the main thing is just to keep going and keep working hard and day-by-day get better and win the games and we’ll see.”
