Real Madrid are reportedly willing to let Luka Modric off their books in the coming transfer window despite the Croatian’s public desire to end his career in the Spanish capital.
According to reports by Diario AS, the former Ballon D’or winner is nearing his final days at the Spanish club as Real Madrid are less likely to offer the 39-year old a new contract before the summer transfer window.
Modric’s deal is up at the end of this season. He has previously expressed his desire to retire in Madrid, and was hoping to extend his contract by at least a year. It is believed clubs in Qatar are monitoring Modric’s contract situation closely.
Still plying his trade at both international and club level, Modric’s longevity cannot be questioned. He recently became the oldest player to appear and score for the club, and currently sits ninth in all-time appearances for Los Blancos.
Madrid have a 3-0 deficit to overturn in their Champions League quarter final tie against Arsenal, and will continue their pursuit of rivals Barcelona with a visit to Eibar later this evening. Madrid currently sit in second place in La Liga, four points behind La Blaugrana.
