Liam Rosenior has made it clear that his current focus is on Strasbourg, despite speculation linking him with the Chelsea manager’s job.
The 41-year-old is a leading candidate to become the next permanent manager at Stamford Bridge, following the departure of Enzo Maresca on New Year’s Day.
The Italian guided the Blues to the UEFA Conference League title and the FIFA Club World Cup in his first season in charge at the club, but left his role after just 18 months by mutual consent last Thursday.
Rosenior has been widely tipped to take over in the coming days, although the Englishman maintained that his focus remains solely on achieving results with Strasbourg.
“I haven’t discussed anything at this point. I know that they’re looking for a manager. Obviously it’s our sister club”, the former Hull City manager revealed.
“Other than that I really want to focus on this club because this club has given me so much. So many good memories, so many good times. The players, the fans, it’s a great city.”
Strasbourg were held to a 1-1 draw by Nice in the French Ligue One on Saturday, leaving the club in seventh place and eight points adrift of a top four spot.
The Blue and Whites are owned by BlueCo, a consortium led by Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and the Clearlake Capital.
“I don’t think it’s respectful to talk about anything else straight after a game that we’ve drawn. Like I said before, if something happens, it happens, but at the moment nothing’s happened”, Rosenior added.
“I know that there’s lots of speculation. I’d have to be an alien not to know.”
Chelsea are expected to name a new permanent manager in the coming days, with U21 coach Calum McFarlane set to tale charge of the Sunday EPL clash against Manchester City.
