Frank defends Spurs unity amid Romero backlash after Bournemouth defeat

Thomas Frank has dismissed claims of indiscipline within his Tottenham Hotspur squad, insisting emotional reactions are a natural part of football following Cristian Romero’s social media outburst after Spurs’ dramatic 3-2 loss to Bournemouth.

The manager was responding to growing scrutiny after Romero appeared to criticise the club’s hierarchy in a now-deleted Instagram post, while several players were also involved in tense exchanges with away supporters at full time.

The scenes sparked debate over dressing-room harmony, especially with reports of players bypassing Frank post-match and openly voicing frustrations about the club’s current situation.

However, Frank was quick to play down the narrative, stressing that pressure affects players in different ways and does not point to a deeper disciplinary issue within the squad.

“I think that’s the beauty of something happening once and then you can always go back to it,” said Frank.

“I think when there’s big expectations then there’s always, and we always discuss that our expectations are aligned in a transitional period, that’s fine.

“There’s a lot of emotions in football. When it’s not going in the direction you want, you feel the pressure after and everyone reacts differently.

“We work very hard on being cool, calm but still a passionate unit.”

From a broader perspective, Frank framed the incident as part of a challenging phase rather than a breakdown in standards.

As Spurs navigate a demanding period on and off the pitch, the focus remains on channeling emotion into unity and performance, rather than allowing frustration to define the group.

With fixtures coming thick and fast, the North London outfit will look to respond in a controlled manner, using recent setbacks as fuel rather than friction as they push forward under their new manager.
