Scott McTominay has praised Napoli’s resolve after they fought back twice to secure a hard-fought 2-2 draw at league leaders Inter Milan in Sunday’s Serie A clash.
The league champions headed into the clash without several of their first team players with injuries, but were able to hold on and secure a valuable away point at the Guiseppe Meazza.
The home side grabbed an early lead inside the first 10 minutes as Federico Dimarco latched on to a ball by Marcus Thuram and fired past Milinkovic-Savic.
“I always thought we were in the game. The players are giving everything. No Anguissa, no Lukaku, no Gilmour, no De Bruyne, no Rrahmani at the start of the season, Neres injured, I mean it’s as if Inter Milan had no Lautaro Martinez, no Thuram, no Barella, no Calhanoglu”, Napoli two-goal hero McTominay said after the match.
“It’s difficult when we are pushing every single game like this, it’s an absolute credit to the players, because the manager and the staff have put everything in place for us to succeed and do well, fair play to the boys, because we’ve got no ‘give up’ here.”
The former Manchester United midfielder pulled one back for the away side in the 26th minute as the first half ended 1-1.
Hakan Calhanoglu put Inter back in front from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute, but McTominay grabbed his second goal of the game and Napoli’s equalizer once again eight minutes later.
“Of course mistakes are part of football, you can’t go down, you have to stand up and try to do your best. Everyone makes mistakes in football, so I just want to give my best and help the team as much as possible.”
Inter Milan remain top of the standings with 43 points and are now four points ahead of Napoli who are third, while AC Milan are second with 40 points.
