Benoit Badiashile has thrown his support behind Liam Rosenior’s early blueprint at Chelsea.
The defender welcomed a philosophy built around freedom, expression and enjoyment on the pitch as the Blues look to build momentum in the second half of the season.
The French centre-back endured a frustrating start to the campaign after injuries sidelined him for much of the opening months, but since returning in November, he has quickly re-established himself in the matchday picture.
Notably, Badiashile has featured in both of Chelsea’s outings since Rosenior’s appointment, underlining his growing role in the new era at Stamford Bridge.
He completed the full 90 minutes during Rosenior’s first game in charge, a convincing 5-1 FA Cup third-round victory over Charlton Athletic.
He was introduced from the bench in Wednesday’s narrow Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg defeat to Arsenal.
Those appearances have already offered the defender a glimpse of what the new head coach wants to instil.
“I think he’s a really good guy and I watched some of his games from Strasbourg so I know he’s a good manager as well,” said Badiashile.
“He’s told us just to be free, to enjoy playing football. I think the style is good for us, so we will try to do what he is asking of us.
“He’s been explaining his vision to us, but it’s only been a short period of time, so we need more time together.”
As the focus now shifts back to Premier League action, Chelsea return to Stamford Bridge this weekend to face Brentford in a west London derby: their first league test under Rosenior’s leadership.
He added: “I had a lot of injuries, but now I am free, so the most important thing is to stay fit and try to play as much as I can,” he added.
“The first half of the season could have been better, I think, but we still have a lot of games to play, so we focus on that.
“Now the aim is to win every game. When you start a game you just want to win, so it’s just to win every game and every trophy that we can, to be the best that we can.”
With Rosenior’s ideas taking shape and key players like Badiashile returning to full fitness, Chelsea will hope this renewed sense of freedom and focus can spark a strong surge through the remainder of the campaign.
