Bournemouth complete £10.4 million deal for Ferencvaros’ Alex Toth

Bournemouth have completed the signing of Hungarian midfielder Alex Toth from Ferencvaros in a deal worth about £10.4 million on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old becomes the second Hungarian to ever play for the Cherries, behind Milos Kerkez who left the club to join Liverpool last summer.

The midfielder arrives at the club with high expectations and is their third addition this month, after the arrivals of Fraser Forster and Ade Solanke.

Toth joined the English club on a five-and-a-half year deal, which potentially keeps him at the Vitality Stadium until 2031, while the deal includes a 10% sell-on clause and another £2.6 million in add-ons.

Speaking after he signed the contract as a Bournemouth player, the Hungary midfielder expressed excitement and said:

“When I knew Bournemouth were first interested in me, I was excited and happy because this is a good club in the Premier League, the best league in the world and the strongest league. The whole club, the whole structure is great.”

Bournemouth beat competition from the likes of Benfica and Galatasaray to acquire the services of the midfielder, who will be playing abroad for the first time in his career.

The club’s head of football operations Tiago Pinto also hailed the arrival of the youngster at the Vitality Stadium.

“He has come from a club that is used to competing at the highest level in Hungary, while also featuring in Europe, so we’re excited about what he can bring to us in Bournemouth as he continues to develop further under the coaching of Andoni [Iraola]”, Pinto stated.

Toth could make his debut for the club when they face defending champions Liverpool in the league next weekend.

The Cherries are 15th on the standings after their 1-1 draw against Brighton last Monday and will be eyeing a win to continue their rise up the standings.
