Erling Haaland has slammed Manchester City’s shambolic performance after they suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Bodo/Glimt in Tuesday’s Champions League clash.
The Cityzens were favourites heading into the clash, but were left stunned after an ‘embarrassing’ performancr to slump to their second European defeat of the campaign.
They have only won twice in their last seven matches across all competitions and must now defeat Galatasaray in their final match next week to stand a chance of progressing to the knockout stages in the automatic spots.
“I don’t have the answers. I take full responsibility of not being able to score the goals I should do, I just apologize to everyone; every single Man City supporter and every single supporter that traveled today, because in the end it’s embarrassing”, a disappointed Haaland said to reporters after the match.
“Bodø they played some incredible football and in the end it’s deserved. Honestly, I don’t know what to say because I don’t have the answers, and what I can say is sorry.”
Kasper Hogh scored twice in the first half to put the hosts in dreamland, before Jens Hauge added a third in the second half.
Rayan Cherki pulled one back for the visitors, who then had Rodri sent off for two quick bookings.
Manager Pep Guardiola also echoed Haaland’s remarks and expects improvement from the team.
“Today was an incredible opportunity for us, but everything is going wrong, going against us in many details. That’s a fact and we have to try to change it. The players are there and we tried”, the Spaniard stated.
“I don’t have any doubt that in this competition, nothing is for granted, that’s for sure. United were better than us [Saturday]. Today it was momentum that punished us.”
Manchester City will conclude their European league-phase campaign against Galatasaray next week, hoping for a win to sneak into the top eight.
