Grealish injury rocks Everton as Moyes confirms major setback

Everton manager David Moyes confirmed that Jack Grealish will be sidelined with a broken foot, describing the injury as a major setback for both player and club.

The on-loan Manchester City winger picked up the injury during last weekend’s victory at Aston Villa, and subsequent specialist checks have revealed a stress fracture.

Further examinations are still to be carried out before a clear timeline is established, leaving Everton facing a period without one of their most influential attackers.

As the season heads into a crucial phase, the timing could hardly be worse.

Grealish has been a key creative outlet since arriving on loan, and his absence not only dents Everton’s immediate plans but also raises questions over his longer-term prospects at Goodison Park, with the deal including a reported £50 million option to buy.

On top of that, the injury also casts a shadow over the player’s hopes of forcing his way into late World Cup contention.

“It’s not for me to give the timescales – we’ve not got it yet from the doctors – but he has a stress fracture in his foot, that’s all I can tell you,” said Moyes candidly.

“It’s a big blow because he’s been hugely important to us since the start of the season, he’s played a big part in the team.”

Although reports have suggested Grealish could be out for up to three months, the Everton boss was quick to cool any speculation as the club await official medical guidance.

“I wouldn’t say anything here at the moment. I wouldn’t speculate and I wouldn’t put any numbers to it,” the gaffer added.

While Everton are not yet looking too far ahead in terms of Grealish’s long-term future, the injury could influence their thinking as the January transfer window approaches.

With fixtures coming thick and fast, squad depth may soon become a priority.

“Getting them is a different story but it will add to our thinking of ‘is there anything out there we can consider’.”

For now, Everton must regroup, adjust tactically, and look for alternatives as they attempt to keep their season on track without one of their standout performers.
