Dro Fernandez has expressed excitement after completing a sensational move from Barcelona to Paris Saint Germain on Monday, with the French club paying slightly more than his €6 million release clause.
The youngster who turned 18 earlier this year, shocked the Spanish champions when he handed in a transfer request stating his desire to leave the club.
The Catalan giants had previously hoped to tie him down to a long-term contract and increase his release clause, before the attacking midfielder revealed his intention to leave for more minutes.
Dro Fernandez joined Barcelona as a 14-year-old in 2022 and progressed through the youth ranks, before making his senior debut during the club’s preseason tour last summer.
PSG beat several other suitors including Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City to his signature, with manager Luis Enrique believed to have played a key role in the transfer.
“I’m very happy and very proud to be joining Paris Saint-Germain. This is a moment of huge pride for me and for my family”, the 18-year-old revealed after signing his contract at the French club.
“PSG is a massive club that I’ve followed since I was a child and where some great legends have made history. I’m hugely excited and motivated to play and to give everything for this shirt.”
Despite making his La Liga and UEFA Champions League debut this season for Barcelona, Dro has found playing minutes hard to come by due to the level of competition in the squad.
The youngster has been limited to just five appearances for the senior side this season, which was a major factor that led to his decision to leave the club.
He has now signed a four-and-a-half year deal at the French club, keeping him in their ranks until 2030 and he will wear the number 27 shirt.
