Arsenal extended their gap at the top of the Premier League standings with an emphatic 4-0 win over Leeds United in Saturday’s clash at Elland Road.
The Gunners were winless in their last two league outings and had seen their lead at the top reduced to four points, but they set the pace ahead of the chasing pack with a comfortable win in the tricky encounter.
Mikel Arteta’s men also failed to score in their last away match at Nottingham Forest, but put four past a helpless Leeds this time around.
Bukayo Saka was injured during warmups and had to be replaced by Noni Madueke in the lineup, while captain Martin Odegaard was also dropped.
The Gunners started on top and broke the deadlock in the 27th minute as Martin Zubimendi headed in a superb delivery from Madueke.
The former Chelsea man was at the heart of things once again as Arsenal grabbed their second of the game in the 38th minute. His brilliant delivery from the corner kick was punched into the goal by Leeds goalkeeper Darlow, giving the visitors a 2-0 lead into the interval.
The home side improved in the second half, but it was the away side who scored the next goal through their big Swede Victor Gyokeres.
The number 14 struck a third for Arsenal after great work by Gabriel Martinelli to set him up, scoring for a second consecutive match.
Substitute Gabriel Jesus then added a brilliant fourth after he had been played through on goal by fellow substitute Odegaard.
Arsenal completed the 4-0 win to bounce back to winning ways and extend their lead to seven points over second-placed Manchester City.
The Gunners moved up to 53 points after 24 matches and will now look ahead to the second leg of their EFL Cup semifinal clash against Chelsea on Tuesday, holding a 3-2 advantage from the first leg.
