Frank defends Tottenham owners on January transfers

Thomas Frank insists that Tottenham Hotspur’s owners remain fully committed to the club’s progress, despite their low activity in the winter transfer window.

Spurs have been linked with several players this month, but have only completed the signings of Brazilian defender Souza from Santos and Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid, even though they have lost several of their team to injuries.

The Europa League winners also missed out on several targets during the course of the month, one of whom is Antoine Semenyo.

The Ghanaian forward joined Manchester City and will take to the pitch for the Cityzens against Spurs on Sunday.

“I think we lost, I can’t remember, six or seven players inside three weeks in January? That’s crazy”, Frank said.

“There were definitely too many, so yeah of course [the squad] it’s weaker than we started the first of January.

“I can promise that the Lewis family is super committed to this project. They want to do everything and I would go against my rule, hopefully only once, that there’s no doubt it’s clear that the club wants to sign Semenyo.

“They did everything. I think that’s a clear signal that the Lewis family is very committed”, he added.

Tottenham welcome Manchester City to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, hoping to end their poor run in the league.

Frank has come under intense scrutiny for the club’s poor performances in the Premier League, despite their good record in the Champions League.

Spurs finished fourth in the 36-team standings, in contrast to their current 14th position in the league.

“That’s a big signing with finances and all that, so it’s aligned with that. That’s the quality players we are looking for to improve the squad”, the former Brentford manager concluded.

Tottenham are winless in their last five league games and will be eyeing a change in fortunes when they face Manchester City on Sunday.
