Alvaro Arbeloa says Kylian Mbappe has the qualities to surpass Cristiano Ronaldo’s goalscoring record at Real Madrid, following his goal in the 2-0 win over Valencia on Sunday.
Mbappe scored his 38th goal of the campaign during Sunday’s La Liga win as the Madrid side closed the gap to league leaders Barcelona to just a point.
Al Nassri forward Ronaldo, holds the record for the most goals scored in Real Madrid’s history, scoring 450 times in nine seasons at the club.
Mbappe’s goal already took him to 81 in just over one season, although he is still a long way far away from reaching the great Portuguese’s numbers.
Speaking after Sunday’s match, Arbeloa hailed the superstar as ‘the best in the world’ and has backed him to exceed expectations at the club.
“We thought we wouldn’t see anything like Cristiano again, What he did looked impossible to match”, the Real Madrid boss stated.
“Kylian still has a long way to go because Cristiano was here for many years, but he has the qualities to follow that path. If anyone can do it, it’s Kylian. Right now, he’s the best player in the world.”
Mbappe’s teammate at club and national team Aurelien Tchouameni is also of the opinion that the forward can surpass Ronaldo’s scoring record at the club.
“Do I think Kylian Mbappe can surpass Cristiano Ronaldo? Of course he can,” Tchouameni revealed.
“He’s incredible. It’s a pleasure playing with him.”
Alvaro Carreras and Mbappe scored the goals to give Real Madrid a 2-0 win over Valencia at the Mestalla and reduce Barcelona’s lead to a single point as the league race intensifies.
