Chelsea’s Cole Palmer opens up on injury struggles after historic hat-trick

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer has voiced his frustration with the injury setbacks that have hampered his season, but insists he’s determined to return stronger in the near future.

The England international has seen his impact at the club reduce drastically for the first time since arriving this season, as he continues to deal with a recurring groin problem.

Despite the injury which has seen him play limited football this term, he has managed eight goals and two assists from 17 appearances across all competitions.

However, he has only completed 90 minutes just five times in those games, with only four coming in the Premier League.

Palmer bagged a historic hat-trick in Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Wolves on Saturday, writing his name into the record books once more.

He became the first player in Premier League history to score three hat-tricks in the first half of matches and also became the Chelsea player with the most hat-trick in Premier League history.

“I’ve never been injured before in my career, this is something new to me, and I’m still finding out how to deal with it,” the England international stated.

“It has been frustrating, I don’t feel like I’ve played a game this season fully fit.

“I’ve been going into games thinking, “Can I do certain things? Can I not?” Overthinking it.

“The staff have been really good. I’ve been working closely with the physios on a day-to-day basis. They have all helped, and I’ll get through it.

“I’m not here to make excuses, and I’ll get over the injuries. I know what I can do when I’m fit, and hopefully I can get back to that soon. For now, I just manage it and get there”, Palmer added.

Chelsea return to action on Tuesday night when they face Leeds United, hoping for another favourable outcome to close in on the top four.
